15, Grand Rue is our terraced house (maison de village) in the ancient village of Colombiers, near Beziers in the Languedoc region of France.
It sleeps up to 5, is 4 minutes walk from the Canal du Midi, 5 miles from Béziers, 20 minutes from the nearest beach and about an hour from Perpignan, Montpellier and Carcasonne Airports!
It was built in several parts, the oldest, we believe dating back to the late 18th Century, with additions in the late 19th C. to make it the shape it is today.
The house itself was renovated in 2001 and Grand Rue was completely re-surfaced and given new drainage in 2002.
Grand Rue is so named because it is the old Main Street which runs from the old village square near the chateau, up to the square with the presbytery near the Church and around to the Mairie.
This is the Mairie ...
and this is the Church.
The village is a maze of little streets, some with very attractive outlooks.
This is the South end of Grand Rue
Which Leads to the Place Des Cafes
and on down past the Chateau Restaurant to the bridge over the Canal.
Colombiers is more open and cosmopolitan than some French villages, having additional restaurants bars and a small supermarket to cater for the boat trade that travels along the Canal du Midi in summer. See the three Locality Pages for more details about the canal.
